National Neighborhood Day Announces Film Contest Winners

On August 29th National Neighborhood Day gathered local press and supporters at the Rhode Island Foundation for the announcement of the winners of the 2005 National Neighborhood Day Short Film Contest.

The film contest asked amateur and professional filmmakers to submit films of 5 minutes or less that answered the question, “What Does Your Neighborhood Mean To You?” For this inaugural year, a winner was selected by the judges in the Adult category and in the Youth category from twenty finalists and over 50 total entries. The Adult Grand Prize Winner will receive $5000 and the Youth Grand Prize Winner will receive $2000.

The winners are:

Adult Category:
Bravell Smith for his film “Straight 2 the Point” about Hunts Point in the South Bronx, New York.

 
   
 

Youth Category:
The 5th and 6th Graders at South Avondale Elementary School for their film “A1 – Off the Hook” about their Cincinnati neighborhood.
