"Knowing our neighbors, their kids and their pets makes the place where we live a very special place."

National Neighborhood Day

"Our neighborhood gathering was meaningful to me simply because it defines a specific group of people, a community, to which I belong. And belonging to a community is very important to me."

"I want to thank National Neighborhood Day for what you've done on behalf of neighborhoods everywhere. We need to get out of our cars and back onto our sidewalks, and taking part in neighborhood activities is a powerful way to refocus that energy."

"It has been a couple of weeks since we held our event and everyday I see someone that I met there for the first time."

Thanks to you, National Neighborhood Day was a great success. Communities throughout the nation organized gatherings in their own neighborhoods, taking inspiration from our web site and outreach. From Los Angeles to Providence , Ottumwa , to Austin, neighbors came together to celebrate the places they live and the people that make those places unique.

Feedback from the day solidified our belief that this initiative has the ability to deliver broad impact. The overarching response was one of collective inspiration; to meet new neighbors, celebrate the neighborhood, and foster the relationships that lead to a strong sense of place and an effective community. Kids played games along blocks that were closed to traffic for the day, neighbors joined together to plant trees along their streets, and many passed the afternoon sharing in food and fellowship.
