Adult Category Winner

Bravell Smith for his film “Straight 2 the Point” about Hunts Point in the South Bronx, New York.

Bravell Smith accepts his award for
his short film "Straight 2 the Point"

Bravell Smith is a native of Providence, RI and graduated from Hope High School in 1997. He is currently a member of the Everett Dance Company based in Providence. With Everett, Bravell has toured around the country performing for schools, and teaching and promoting the arts and healthy life choices for underserved urban children.

Bravell’s film was originally shot as a documentary on the struggle of the Hunts Point neighborhood to keep a landfill from being built on its waterfront. He abbreviated the original piece for this contest because he felt it spoke to how “neighborhood” is defined.

While pursuing his undergraduate degree, family and financial circumstances caused Bravell to have to delay his dreams of studying film making. He will be using his prize money to continue developing his craft and furthering his education.
